A link to this article was posted at the WVD forums. Clearly the author has a grudge against vegans, probably due to being recently dumped by his vegan girlfriend who he attempted to go vegetarian for.
I decided to send him an email to let him know that he's wrong, wrong, wrong, wronnnnnng!
Hi Michael,
Your "article" almost put me to sleep, it's not like you're the first person to go back to eating meat. You call yourself a "recovering vegetarian" more like "I used to be a vegetarian but now I'm lazy and can't be bothered so I pick on the people who are more committed than I could ever be".
Get over it, so you now choose to eat meat, that doesn't make us all nuts for doing something we believe in. Create a blog so that you can have your tantrums where people can choose to read them, not in a state publication meant for newsworthy issues.
I hope you have a cruelty-free day :)
You can read Miss T's response here and Lisa's here.
Edit 06.04.09:
Check out all the letters that were published, brilliant!

Ooo, he's just mean. He chooses to feel guilty, we can't make him.
Hope his dog bites him!
way to electronically kick his ass.
What a dumb-ass. I really like your email to him! Are we morally opposed to eating him? I think it would be sufficient for our next B-12 fix! Just joking.
Awesome retaliation email! That guy sounds like an uninformed prick. Certainly not smarter than the average bear, bird and dolphin.
I'm always happy to engage in an informed, interesting discussion and if people want to present intelligent, rational arguments for eating meat then even if I don't respect their outcome I can at least respect their ability to think and argue. This article, however, was just full of really silly arguments that 5 minutes of desktop research would have shown to be long settled and ill informed. There wasn't even a basic run-down of why people may decide that veganism is for them, except that we apparently have no tastebuds and are "anti-human".
I'm mostly offended by the poor quality of argument and the flat attempts at humour. You're right - it has no place in the publication.
check out my partners correspondance with him, he seems to sing a different tune when he's not in the papers...

comment conversation carried over from my blog: they tase like them!!! false banana flavour for the win. our american friend shannon loves fake banana flavoured things and thinks there is a surplus of this in australia and a lack of as much in the states, so we found him banana flavoured things.
the brand is ALPHA and they make dairy free chocolates that are kosher so you can get them in Bondi at Starks on Hall street (at the moment that is the only kosher grocery store in sydney that i've seen them in though i'm sure there is more in the others at other times of the year - it is almost Pesach and they clean all the stock for this holiday) and they are made in Melbourne so are a bit cheaper/easier to find down there. we got a bag of about 30 of just the one flavour for shannon which cost about $5. theres also strawberry, coffee, mint, and other flavours. so good! love kosher-pareve foods that are NINJAVEGANS.
I agree with the others...way to stand up for what you believe in.
Thanks everyone!
And Léna, wooo! I love narna flavoured things too, I will head to Bondi asap and see if I can find them :)
That article was really stupid but your email response is great!
I stopped reading at "moral snobbery." Dude needs to get over himself. I quite liked your response to him!
