VeganMoFo2011 Day 21: Life Bars and Sweet Freedom Syrup

I thought for today I'd review some new products that I really like, starting with Emma and Tom's Life Bars.

Life Bars are raw fruit and nut bars with no added sugar or preservatives. They all contain dates, almonds and cashews as well as the other fruits used to flavour them.

Originally these bars were available in three flavours: Fig and Lemon with Chia, Cacaoo and Orange and Cherry and Goji.

All of the bars have a soft texture with the added crunch from the almonds and cashews. My favourite is the Cacao and Orange which surprised me because I never liked the chocolate LaraBars and these bars are a little similar to Larabars.

Recently I discovered they have a new flavour Banana with Chia! I love bananas so I was really excited to try this flavour. I finally found some and while they're not as banana-y as I'd hoped they'd be, they're still delicious.

Life Bars are available in supermarkets and fruit and veggie stores.

A couple of months ago I bought a bottle of Sweet Freedom Natural Syrup. It's made from apples, grapes and carob and it can be used as a honey replacement.

Now I know a lot of new vegans miss certain foods like cheese or eggs but for me, the only thing I missed at first was honey. I used to love honey by the spoonful, on bananas, in banana smoothies and on toast. So the first thing I did was try it on a slice of toasted Schär gluten & soy free bread and it was so good. It is a bit honey like and also similar to agave.

You can buy Sweet Freedom from online vegan stores like Vegan Online.

oh neat, that's cool to see reviews for some Aussie products! I am going to Austria for a couple of weeks this winter, to a tiny little town... so I'm starting to think about things like Lara Bars that I'll need to take with me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some serious provisions!

I love Sweet Freedom. One of my best friends has diabetes and can't tolerate agave syrup for some reason and she was so pleased when we discovered Sweet Freedom. It's great!

I have never tried a Life Bar - but they sound right up my alley! I like that they are vegan, gluten and soy free - and made with natural ingredients. Awesome!

Honey was the one thing I missed when I first became vegan too! I had no problem giving up eggs and dairy, but I put honey on everything like bagels with peanut butter and apples. I like agave as a substitute, but love the thickness of honey, so the Sweet Freedom Syrup looks excellent!

I went vegan in 2006 and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love baking cupcakes and reading books and often wish I could combine both activities without disastrous results. If I’m not in the kitchen you’ll find me photographing food, cuddling my two kittehs or re-watching my favourite tv shows over and over again with my boyfriend. Due to food sensitivities I don't eat gluten or soy and yes, vegan, gluten free and soy free food is still delicious! Twitter: CupcakeKitteh
