VeganMoFo2012 Day 29: Sweet Potato Damper Rolls

I got a bit ahead of myself and thought today was the second last day of VeganMoFo only it's not, which is ok, this has been a lot of gun (as usual!)

Today I want to show you guys some rolls I've been making that are vegan, gluten free, soy free and easy to bake.

Sweet Potato Damper Rolls

The recipe comes from Allergy-free Cooking for Kids which I mentioned last VeganMoFo. The book is divided up into dairy free, egg free and gluten free but a lot of recipes also cross over and a lot are vegan, like these rolls if you sub the butter for vegan margarine.

They contain about half a cup of cooked and mashed sweet potato, giving them their lovely orange hue.

I want to share the recipe but won't since it's from a book. I've been working on my own version because they rely on a store-bought gluten free flour mix and I want to come up with a recipe that anyone can make even if you don't have access to packaged gf flour mixes. So stay tuned ;)

The first time I made them I served them alongside some stew cooked up in the pressure cooker. This is the African Sweet Potato Stew from Vegan Planet - you can find a version of it here.

Yum! This almost makes me miss winter... almost ;)

They look great--naturally sweet and as if you could also have them for breakfast with jam. Why are they called "Damper" rolls? Fascinating name.

Your damper rolls look gorgeous and I also like the sound of the African stew. I haven't made much from Vegan Planet so I'll have to keep this recipe in mind.

I love damper and sweet potatoes are my favourite food in the world, so these look perfect! I picked up an allergy-free kids book at the newsagent the other day but didn't end up getting it, it wasn't the same as the one you have but maybe a new edition? I'm pretty sure it was another Women's Weekly one.

I went vegan in 2006 and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love baking cupcakes and reading books and often wish I could combine both activities without disastrous results. If I’m not in the kitchen you’ll find me photographing food, cuddling my three kittehs or re-watching my favourite tv shows over and over again with my boyfriend. Due to food sensitivities I don't eat gluten or soy and yes, vegan, gluten free and soy free food is still delicious! Twitter: CupcakeKitteh
